After a tough day – or any day – at work, a quick drink can be rather tempting. It's easy to while away an afternoon here, feasting on 2PAC wings, sipping on Bellinis and lingering over Young Henrys beers and ciders: all $5 a piece.

Bavarian Bier Cafe
Another eatery serving up affordable chicken in the afternoon is Bavarian Bier Cafe, a spectacular, German-influenced beer barn in a converted church, run by Rockpool Dining Group. From 4:00pm - 6:00pm weekdays, wings are $1 a pop, while house wines, beers and spirits are $5.

For a mini trip to Europe after work, there's The Sicilian, a friendly, authentic Italian restaurant, splashed with terracotta and dotted with palm trees. Every day, between 3:00pm and 5:30pm, house cocktails are $8 and selected beer, wine and spirits $5. Specials extend to the food, too, with woodfired pizzas at $15.

The Burger Project – celebrity chef Neil Perry's fast food outlet – serves up $5 drinks between 3:00pm and 6:00pm, Monday - Friday. The wines are made exclusively for the eatery by highly-respected wine maker Jeffrey Grosset, while the beers and ciders are all craft brews.

At this sleek, beautifully-designed restaurant and bar, a happy hour tipple includes relaxing views over Parramatta River. On the list are $10 seasonal cocktails, $7 house wines, $7 schooners of Hahn Super Dry, $5 Parra Fires and $20 jugs of sangria, available 4:00pm - 7:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Famous for its massive beer tanks, which keep their brews as fresh and delicious as possible, the Commercial Hotel holds happy hour between 5pm and 7pm on weekdays. House beer, house wine and selected spirits are $5.20. Two of the most relaxing spots for drinking are the airy beer garden – protected by an all-weather canopy – and the Verandah Bar.

One of the most affordable happy hours in Parramatta is that hosted by PJ's Irish Pub. From 4:00pm - 6:00pm, Monday to Saturday, local beers are $4, while from 6:00pm - 9:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays, cocktails are $10 and house drinks are $5.
